Want to be our next success story?

The University of Ottawa (uOttawa) is the largest bilingual (English and French) university in the world. Their progressive initiatives stem from values that prioritize students, staff, and the ability to create and share knowledge. With a 97% employment rate after graduating, uOttawa is an institution that ‍‍‍fosters adaptive and enlightened styles of learning for their students. Two members of uOttawa’s Biology Department wanted to further engage undergraduates with a bilingual, gamified study tool that students could use to solidify their knowledge of course material.

Background.

In two phases, our design and development teams created a custom built web application,‍‍‍‍‍‍ a‍‍‍s well as engaging branding and visuals. Our team personalized the application’s user experience (UX), user interface (UI), and back-end coding. With relevant content provided by uOttawa, the tool allowed students to test their knowledge of the course material using a variety of multiple-choice trivia questions. The platform also allowed for data trackings, such as quiz results and usage rates by faculty.

The final product was launched in January 2018 and saw immediate use shortly after launch. The application has a variety of multiple-choice quizzes, with individual student accounts linked to their uOttawa email addresses and a competitive leaderboard that students can climb for extra credit. UOttawa’s Department of Biology now has an appealing tool to provide to students that promote learning and a rewarding initiative to study. A substantial number of students currently use the application and engage with it on a regular basis.
